[blockquote author=”” link=”” link_title=”” target=””]My name came from my father’s favourite late singer, Leslie Cheung’s song “Monica”.[/blockquote]
Perhaps it was how my name came about, I was extremely fond of singing and performing from a young age. As a kid, I harboured dreams about making it big with my voice, and I would dance to the tunes of Britney Spears, Speed, Vegaboys etc., and the skipping rope and dustpan would be my microphone and microphone stand. I was often reminded that back when I was still a toddler, I would annoy my family by hogging the microphone in the KTV, and croon them songs with my bo-gay (no teeth) mouth.
Growing into my teens, I joined the school choir and learnt other forms of singing aside from pop, and upon completion of my ‘O’ levels, I realized my urge for performing, and I knew that I had to find a platform to sing, and that’s how I ended up at The Ark Music Café!
Performing at the café provided me with many great exposures and opportunities, and I am glad to have found such a platform where I can do what I want to (hosting, singing, learning to play instruments, etc.), and learn about my own strengths and weaknesses. I have to admit that I am too sensitive a person, and sometimes I get overly upset upon knowing my weaknesses, however, I’ve grown to learn that the fastest way that a person can improve is for her to receive criticisms. I am also extremely thankful for all those who had complimented me throughout my years in singing because the compliments that I’ve received served as adrenaline pumps, and thanks to these compliments and criticisms, I’ve become a better performer than what I was years ago. : )
Music has accompanied me through many ups and downs. To me, the power and influence music possess is limitless, and I hope that one day, my voice can provide comfort for people around the world.
